STM Team in Ghana
A short-term ministry team of six from First Alliance Church (Calgary) in Ghana for 2 weeks, partnering with CIM and the local church, Evangelical Church of Ghana.
“Come and see what the Lord has done!” This is a local praise song sung frequently in churches across Ghana. This phrase has been ringing in my mind throughout the month as I reflect on the ways God has revealed Himself and made His power and glory known.
Enoch, Lucy and I were privileged to welcome a team from my home church, First Alliance (Calgary) to join us in ministry for 2 weeks in April. It would be impossible to succinctly summarize all that took place during these weeks! Here are some highlights:
Visited International Justice Mission’s Headquarters in Accra to learn more about their work in bringing justice and restoration to victims of human trafficking in Ghana.
Worshiped together in our home church in Ghana (Nyankpala ECG), met with Pastor Emmanuel and Pastor Asase to learn more about their ministry in the Tamale area.
Led the Suburini Mission School, alongside Pastor Ezekiel, in Easter lessons and activities, teaching about Jesus’ death and resurrection and how to have a relationship with God. Many children accepted the Lord as their personal savior for the first time, several rededicated their lives to grow more in Christ, and 5 parents made a personal decision to follow Christ!
Transformed the 3-classroom school structure in Suburini with interior and exterior painting to match their school colors.
Worshipped with Pastor Caleb’s churches in the Gmanejere area for Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday.
Led a 2-day teaching with the students of the Gmanejere mission school about the Easter story, in which 4 students committed their lives to Christ!
Went on evangelism visitations to surrounding villages with Pastor Caleb and some of the church leaders. In total, 45 men and women came forward to accept Christ.
Met with some of the ECG National leaders at Headquarters in Accra.
One particular visitation to the village of Sambik was particularly memorable for the team. 2 weeks prior, a man who used to worship fetish idols gave his life to Christ after seeking healing in various ways without success. By God’s grace and in His timing, someone suggested for the man to see Pastor Caleb for prayer. It was then that Pastor Caleb led him to Christ and they burned all his fetish idols. Some of the members of that team visited this man’s village 2 weeks after his family accepted Christ to witness to the other community members. By the power of the Holy Spirit, 25 men and 5 women put their faith in the Lord! The man testified and gave glory to God on Resurrection Sunday, giving thanks to God for all He has done for him and his community! God is very much alive and at work!
Prayer Requests
Please pray for the children, women and men who committed their lives to Christ. Pray for these believers to be "rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith" (Colossians 2:7).
Pray for the church leaders to be "steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord [their] labor is not in vain" (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Pray for the needs of the church and communities, for God is "able to make all grace abound to [the people of Ghana], so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, [they] may abound in every good work" (2 Corinthians 9:8).
Praise God for the completion of my indefinite residence permit. Thank you so much for praying with me!
Pray for our final month in Ghana before our home assignment (June - October). Pray for God’s guidance as we wrap things up on our end in Ghana and prepare to share with churches in Canada about the ministry. Pray especially for our follow up with those who have recently committed their lives to following Christ.
God bless you,
Janice, Enoch & Lucy Jabab
