Dear friends, ministry partners, and supporting churches in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus. As we enter a new season of ministry together, I am humbled to step into the role of Acting Executive Director for CIM Canada. I am grateful for the Board’s trust, and even more grateful to the Lord, whose faithful hand continues to guide His people in every generation.
For many years, God has allowed me the privilege of serving Him through missions leadership and cross cultural ministry. My journey began in the local church — serving in different missions & church boards, teaching Sunday School, supporting outreach ministries, and helping congregations discern how God was calling them to engage globally. Those early years shaped my heart for equipping the church and strengthening partnerships between local congregations and mission fields.
My wife, Lisa, and I, together with Pastor Kenny & Helen, Pastor Xavier, Pastor Isaac, and Elvis, participated in a Roma ministry exploration trip to Ukraine in 2017. That journey marked the beginning of my ministry involvement with CIM. Since that visit, CIM has formally adopted the Roma ministry in partnership with House of Mercy.
In time, the Lord widened my path through short term ministry in Ghana and Ukraine. Serving among local pastors, Roma communities, children’s ministries, and church leaders has been one of the greatest encouragements in my life. Listening to stories in village courtyards, praying with families, encouraging pastors in difficult seasons, and witnessing God’s work in places of challenge and hope — all of these moments have deepened my conviction that mission is ultimately about people, presence, and faithful partnership. These experiences continue to shape how I lead today.
Visiting the ECG National Leaders in Ghana with Pastor Isaac during the COVID season in 2021
Pastor Isaac and I, together with Janice and Enoch, travelled throughout Ghana in 2022 to visit and encourage ECG pastors and their families.
With Pastor Isaac Quan transitioning out of the Executive Director role to focus on his health, the Board invited me to consider serving in this interim capacity. After prayer, discernment, and many conversations, I sensed the Lord’s quiet nudge to step forward in faith. We now enter this chapter together, trusting that God will continue to shepherd His mission through every transition.
Even as leadership shifts, our calling remains steady. CIM Canada exists to mobilize, equip, and encourage God’s people to participate cross-cultural ministry in His redemptive work among the nations. That mission is unchanged, and our direction remains clear.
In these first months, my priorities are simple and relational:
• Listening and connecting — to our staff, board members, International Worker, and ministry partners
• Strengthening clarity and stewardship within our organization
• Supporting ongoing field ministries in Ghana, Ukraine, and other regions
• Encouraging churches and donors who faithfully stand with us
Worked together with school leaders, teachers and students to paint the Evangelical Church of Ghana Suburini school building (April 2025)
In April 2025, Lisa and I led a shortterm missions’ team from our home church, FAC Calgary, to Ghana to support Janice’s field ministries, serving alongside the ECG Suburini School.
Testimony sharing with Suburini students at the close of each day, reflecting on the Easter story.
We just returned from Ghana in September 2026 after serving on a shortterm mission with the CIM Australia team. Stay tuned for more details in our upcoming newsletters about this trip.
One moment from recent ministry continues to stay with me. During the recent STM trip to Ghana with CIM Australia, I can recall a local believer shared how a short term team’s simple act of presence — praying with her family, sitting in her courtyard, listening to her story — renewed her hope in Christ. It reminded me again that mission is not merely activity; it is relationship, encouragement, and the gospel lived out in community.
As we move forward, I warmly invite you to continue journeying with us. Continue to pray for Pastor Isaac and CIM. Your prayers, encouragement, and partnership make this ministry possible. I look forward to connecting with many of you personally in the coming weeks and months.
Thank you for standing with us. Appreciate your prayers and support.
May the Lord strengthen and unite us as we serve Him together.
In Christ’s service,
Tomson Chan
