Introducing Robert Pang, CIM Board of Director

My name is Robert Pang, & my Chinese name (彭恩賜) which means something to be thankful…. like a blessing. I was born into a Christian family. In 2023 as my sister was doing clean up, she found a testimony of my father confirming that we were 4th generation Christian which my father seldom talked about our family history. I only knew one of his uncles was a pastor. My father practiced what he believed, and I see his day-to-day life of being a faithful Christian.  He has been sick since I was in grade 6. In & out of hospital is a norm for him until he was call to be present with God when I was in my 2nd year of university. I saw him always praying, during his hospital stay. He would go to others & talk about Jesus when he was feeling better. The whole hospital knows about him. When he comes home, I saw him reading his Bible & spending a lot of time in prayer. He felt he cannot do much but he can pray for others. I never heard him blaming God about his situation; he just takes it as it comes.

Being brought up in a Christian family doesn’t mean you are a Christian. I came to know the Lord personally when I was in Grade 10. I was baptised on Easter that year. As I look back at my 50 years of being a Christian, I was amazed how God have led me so far. I came to Canada to study & was blessed by God’s provisions. I came to know a Canadian brother.  He was an English teacher and he saw me catching the bus to the same church he was attending. In the winter, the temperature could easily be minus 20. He picked me up on the way to church on Sunday. He taught me how to drive & help with my English language. Later I was led to a Chinese church that put priority in discipleship, but was able to learn to serve in different capacities. That gave me the foundation of serving our Lord. We were also taught young to pray for our future partner. I now always treasure the days & share our joy with my brothers & sisters in Christ when I have opportunity to meet them in different cities, which after graduation as our work led us to different parts of the world.

I came to know my wife though a short-term mission trip with Chinese Christian Mission. We were living in different cities. Life is not as smooth as it seems to be. As my employment was slowing down due to the economy in the 80’s, I found I will be out of work soon. God opened another door for me to learn another trade. Within two years I was working for myself as a locksmith which I am still doing. After marriage we didn’t want to have kids yet. Years went by before we were ready to have kids. We tried for a few years. Doctor’s appointments, tests, and our last resort was offered to us from the doctor was Invitro fertilization. We both felt that this was a human way & not God’s way, so we turned it down. An older sister in the church started praying for us and seven years later we had our first child. A year and a half later, we welcomed our second child.

(Robert and his wife Amy)

I have continuously served in the church in different leadership capacities during my Christian life. As our children grew up and were able to take care of themselves, we came across an opportunity to go on short term missions. In 2013 our church organized & sent out a team to Ghana that my wife and I were able to join. This was my first time I was introduced to CIM which opened our eyes to cross-cultural missions. That year I made a commitment to go to on a STM every two years. In 2015 I was in Cambodia & Vietnam. In 2017 I was able to go again to Ghana with CIM. In 2019 just before Covid hit the world I was able to join a CIM STM to travel to Ukraine for the Roma people group. God opened my eyes to the mission field. We were not able to go due to Covid in 2021. In 2023 we were able to go to Mexico for another STM with my church. We are in the process of planning another trip to Mexico in late autumn at time of this writing.

(Ghana STM)

Last year I was approached to be one of the board of directors for CIM. After praying for a month, I accepted the offer and am serving as one of the directors. Learning to serve again in a new position is always a challenge and I am praying for God to open my eyes as this is the key for the rest of our lives to learn to serve.

Pray With Us:

  • Please continue to pray for peace in Ukraine. The invasion rages on and innocent lives are lost each day. Pray for House of Mercy as they take care of refugees, physically and spiritually.  Pray for peace talks and for a ceasefire. There has been much confusion regarding this process.

  • Pray for guidance and direction for our next steps for our Roma Ministry. Pray for the planning of sending a STM team to North Macedonia and Serbia scheduled for September 14-October 7. If anyone is interested in more information about the STM, please contact us at cimcanadaoffice@gmail.com.

  • Pray for the pastors and teachers that we support in Ghana. Pray for fruitful ministry and God’s provision for each pastor’s family needs.

  • Pray for Janice in Ghana as she continues with her ministry as our International Worker in Ghana. Pray for her home assignment in Canada from June-September.

  • Pray for the finances of CIM Ministries. The economic situation in Canada may become very unstable with the uncertainty of a tariff trade war with the United States resulting possibly with less donors. Pray for new donors and a healthy general fund to run our ministries. Praise God that our financial situation has improved over the last year. In order to run our ministries effectively, we are currently seeking monthly donors. We encourage donors to give to our General Fund so we can distribute the funds where the needs are the greatest.  Click here to donate.

  • Pray for CIM USA as they are still looking for an Executive Director and Director of Ministry.
