From this issue of News Update:

Dear CIM friends,

Happy New Year from CIM Canada.  We want to wish each and every single one of you a very blessed 2019.  It is hard to believe how time flies.  It feels like yesterday that we were celebrating the arrival of 2018. It is an honor serving as the Executive Director for CIM Canada.  2018 was my third year at this post. It continues to be a learning experience and I would like to thank the Board of Directors and the staff for their encouragement and support.

As we embark on a new year, I would like to reflect back on 2018 and share how God has blessed and used us over the last 12 months at CIM Canada.  Each year is a little different, but God is always faithful, and as a result, lives are turned over to Him and people continue to serve Him.

In 2018, CIM sent 4 STM teams to Ghana, which comprised of 24 STM members including myself.  I had the privilege of being on three of these teams. One of the teams, which was comprised of 6 ladies and myself, also traveled to Togo in July.

We also sent two teams to Ukraine, which comprised of 5 STM members including myself, to work with the Roma people group.  This was the first year that we officially sent teams to work with the Romas and we are excited about how the Lord will lead this ministry in the years ahead.

Other than these STM teams, there were more individuals who expressed interest, but for various reasons could not go and had deferred their trip to a later date. Through each of the trips I have been on this year, the Lord continues to bless and teach me, not only through the locals but through each team member as well.

The STM teams of 2018 not only had a positive influence in the areas they ministered in, but many have grown in their walk with the Lord as they see how great and powerful God is.  For a number of these STM members, going overseas for cross cultural missions was the first time they left the comfort zone of their own church and saw God work on a global scale.  Many of the team members have shared their interest to go back to Africa, Ukraine or other mission fields. For others, it was a confirmation of their calling into the ministry or to the mission field.

The past year has also been a transition year for CIM.  Flora Loong, our administrative assistant for the last 12 years, stepped down from her post to pursue the Lord’s calling in full time ministry.  She has been a blessing to CIM Canada and we will miss her being on staff.  Jessica On joined CIM Canada in October as our new administrative assistant and has been doing a wonderful job.  We also welcomed Rich Ng and Ann Lee onto our Board of Directors while Rev. Kenny Wong, Rev. Morgan Wong, and Rev. Xavier Law’s terms as directors came to an end in 2018.  We thank them for their contributions and look forward to working with them again in the future.

There has also been changes with our Ghana ministries as Rev. Daniel Gbande’s term as general overseer of Evangelical Church of Ghana came to an end.  He has held this post since September of 2010 and must step down from this role for at least one term.  Rev. KK Maxwell Liwangol, former treasurer for ECG, has been elected as the new general overseer.  He was supposed to have taken over the role as of September 1, 2018 but because of health issues, the hand over ceremony was delayed to January 27, 2019.

As a new year begins, we know that God will continue to bless our ministries in 2019.  I encourage all of us to serve the Lord wholeheartedly in whatever circumstance that we are in and if you feel called to go on missions with us, want to know more about CIM’s mission, or contribute to us financially, please do not hesitate to visit our webpage at www.cimcanada.org or email us at contact@cimcanada.org. Thank you for your continual support!

Prayer items:

  1. Pray for Rev. KK Maxwell Liwangol as he assumes position of general overseer for the Evangelical Church of Ghana. Originally this was to have taken place in September and then in November, but because of health issues, the official handover ceremony will now be on January 27, 2019. Also pray for him and his family, as his mother and brother-in-law both passed away very recently.
  2. Pray for the January STM team to Ghana and Togo from Australia, which was led by Rev. Isaac Quan and Rev. Sunny Tse (chairman for CIM Australia). Pray for the strengthening of faith to those they reached.
  3. Pray for peace as tension mounts with the Ukraine-Russia conflicts. Pray for the Lord’s guidance, direction, and protection for CIM’s Roma ministry.
  4. Pray for peace in Togo as there has been protests following the elections in December.
  5. Pray for the financial needs of CIM Canada. Pray for a healthy general fund and funds to maintain our ministries including village schools, Togo and Roma ministries. Sincerely,
Rev. Isaac Quan
