From this issue of News Update:

In June, CIM Canada sent its first official STM team to the Roma people group in Ukraine. After an exploratory trip to the area in 2017, the CIM Canada Board of Directors approved this mission field in keeping with CIM Canada’s mandate of cross-cultural missions. The Romas are widely known among English-speaking people by the name “Gypsies” and are originally from the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. In Ukraine, the estimated population of the Roma people is about 400 000. For this particular STM, we help run a Roma youth camp, where a number of the youth made commitments to the Lord. We also help distribute food to some of the Roma settlements.

While in Ukraine we signed a contract to partner with the House of Mercy Foundation (https://www.houseofmercy.com.ua/house-of-mercy.html) with their ministry to the Romas (https://www.houseofmercy.com.ua/roma-ethnicity-support.html). Our initial work will be in the Roma settlements of Piragova and Perechin. Valeria Muzika (Lera) and Andriana Reshko are two Ukranians that have already been serving amongst the Romas and whom we will be working closely with.

In this month’s News Update, Lera introduces herself and shares a little about her ministry.
Hello dear brothers and sisters in Christ!

My name is Lera. I am Ukrainian and I am serving the Roma people in Ukraine.

Around 6 years ago God touched my heart to serve the Roma people. They are very special people for me and I believe, they have very special place in God’s heart. Even though, many people in my country don’t like Romas, but God has given me love for them that only He can give. So, for 6 years now together with my friend, Andriana, we are in this ministry. We started with teaching kids some easy Bible truths in one of the Roma settlements in a small trailer. They didn’t know God at that time and it was not easy. People in the settlement and kids were very tough. But God was doing His work and through the years we see how God is changing this settlement and people there. After a few years since we started, God blessed us with the prayer house and a Roma pastor who is now coming to this Roma settlement to serve. Today we continue this ministry with hope for better future for Romas in Ukraine.

Even though this ministry is not easy but today we can see good fruits. People accept Jesus in their lives and God is changing them. Kids are learning about God; people are getting baptized and want to serve God among their nation. God is raising new leaders among Romas. Life for Roma people is not easy. There are not many Ukrainians who like Roma people and because of their way of life Romas have a bad reputation. But we believe that only One God can change their hearts and their lives. We believe in Jesus’ power to give new life and new hope to Roma nation. That is why we do what we do.

In June, we ran a Roma youth camp with CIM Canada. Our Canadian friends – Pastor Isaac, Pastor Kenny and Cassandra were a big support and blessing for us in this camp. They shared God’s living Word with youth and leaders each day of the camp, and also shared their testimonies. The theme of the camp was “One way” and every day we had different topic, talking about the One way to heaven – Jesus Christ. We had different activities, music, games, crafts and lots of fun. Some youth accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. Our hearts rejoice for them and we ask you to pray for them. May God help them to follow Him, the One way.

This camp was a big blessing for all of us and it was really blessed time to serve together with our Canadian friends. We really felt their support and love for God and people.

Please, pray for Roma people in Ukraine and for our ministry. May God bless you all.

Ride for Refuge:
CIM Canada will be participating in the Ride for Refuge fundraiser this year on September 29, 2018. Ride for Refuge is a family-friendly cycling and walking fundraiser that support organizations like our own. The money raised will be used to further our ministries. We are currently looking for team captains, riders, and donors. For more information about Ride for Refuge, you may visit their website https://rideforrefuge.org If you want to participate for CIM Canada, you may visit https://rideforrefuge.org/charity/cimcanada We would love for you to join us in this fundraiser.

Prayer items:
1. Pray for the financial needs of CIM Canada. Pray for more donors, as some of our ministry funds including the ECG village school projects and Togo funds are very low. Pray also for a healthy general fund.
2. Pray for the transition of leadership at Evangelical Church of Ghana (who CIM partners with). Rev. Daniel Gbande’s term as general overseer is up and will be stepping down in September to be replaced by Rev. KK Maxwell. Pray that the transition goes smoothly and that the relationship with CIM Canada remains strong.
3. Pray for Rev. Xavier Law (CIM Canada Board Chair) and his family as they recover from a car accident suffered in early July.

If you are interested in joining a STM or want to know more about our ministries, please visit our website at www.cimcanada.org or email us at contact@cimcanada.org
