From this issue of News Update:
Happy New Year from CIM Canada.
We want to wish each one of you a wonderful 2018. May God bless you in all that you do.
It has been an honor serving as the Executive Director for CIM Canada. 2017 was my second year at this post. It has been a learning experience and I would like to thank the Board of Directors and the staff for their encouragement and support. 2018 shapes up to be an exciting year for CIM Canada. Not only will we continue our cross-cultural ministries in the West African countries of Ghana and Togo, but we will begin working with the Romas of Western Ukraine. In June of 2017, we sent an exploratory team to see how viable it would be for CIM to venture into this part of the world to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. The results came back positive and at our Board of Director meetings in October, it was approved that we begin ministry with the Romas in 2018. Stay tuned as we will give more details and updates about the Roma ministries in the coming months.
As we embark on a new year, I would like to reflect back on 2017 and share how God has blessed us and used us over the last 12 months at CIM Canada. Each year is a little different, but God is always faithful, and as a result, lives are turned over to Him, and people continue to serve Him.
It appears that the effects of the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa has finally neutralized. After a few years where there were heightened concerns about the safety of STM teams traveling to Ghana and Togo resulting in much fewer teams going, CIM sent 5 teams to Ghana with 1 team to both Ghana and Togo. It could have been more as there were some individuals that had expressed interest in going but we could not place them on any team due to size restrictions or the time of year they could travel.
In 2017, CIM sent 5 STM teams to Ghana, composed of 28 STM’ers from Australia and Canada. I had the privilege of being on four of the teams. Through each of the trips I have been on this year, the Lord continues to bless and teach me, not only through the locals but each team member as well.
The teams that went in 2017 were:
January: Team Australia (5 members from various Chinese churches in Sydney, Australia)
May: Team Burnaby Pacific Grace (5 members from Burnaby Pacific Grace in Vancouver)
July: Team LLC (7 members comprised mainly of Lord’s Love Church in Vancouver including Pastor Doug Wong (BOD for CIM Canada) plus members from Calgary)
August-September: Team Bethel (7 members comprised mainly of Bethel Chinese MB Church in Vancouver plus members from Calgary) – This team traveled to both Ghana and Togo.
October-November: Team Hallelujah (4 members from Hallelujah Chinese EFC in Toronto including Lui Ho Siu (BOD for CIM Canada))
The STM teams of 2017 not only had a positive influence in the areas they ministered in, but many have grown in their walk with the Lord as they see how great and powerful God is. For a number of the STM’ers, going to Africa was the first time they left the comfort zone of their own church, and saw God work on a global scale. A large number of the STM’ers shared their interest to go back to Africa or other mission fields. For others it was a confirmation of their calling into the ministry or to the mission field.
We continue our partnership with ECG (Evangelical Church of Ghana), but there will be a few changes with their leadership in 2018. Rev. Daniel Gbande, the general overseer, will be stepping down from his post as his term is up. Rev. KK Maxwell (former treasurer for ECG) will take up the role of general overseer starting in September, 2018.
As a new year begins, we know that God will continue to bless our ministries in 2018. I encourage all of us to serve the Lord wholeheartedly in whatever circumstance that we are in and if you feel called to go on missions with us or want to know more about CIM’s mission, please do not hesitate to visit our webpage at www.cimcanada.org
Thank you for your continued support.
Rev. Isaac Quan
