From this issue of News Update:

As a continuation from last month’s newsletter about “passion”, I would like to share how this passion has been caught in other ways.

Though not all at our church are able to go on overseas missions, this passion for Ghana has spread to serving at other capacities. I remember a conversation I had with a fellow at our church last Fall and conversation went something like this, “Doug, I’m not sure what I’m called to do since I don’t feel like I’m gifted in anything. All I have is a love for sports. But I feel God asking me to serve Him somehow and to make a difference.” Also, upon hearing the financial deficit at CIM, we thought there must be something we can do this. As we took some time to pray in the weeks following, the Lord ignited a passion in his heart to combine his love for golf and the Gospel. As a couple months went by, after much prayer and planning, a committee was formed with those who shared a similar heart. What’s the product of the committee’s passion? On September 23, 2017, our church will be hosting a charity golf tournament at Country Meadows Golf Course in Richmond, BC to raise funds to support the ministries at CIM. Who knew there would be a connection between one’s passion for golf and missions! As Psalms 37:3-4 says,

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

It’s true that God always gives you the desires of your heart. Hold on for a moment… always? Yes, always – when you take delight in Him. Because when your heart is purely delighting in Him and you’re walking in step with God, God’s desires become your desire. What does God desire? Well, that’ll have to be explored in another post. But I think it has to do with all people experiencing the love of God coming into a relationship with Him.

So, the purpose of the golf tournament is three-fold: 1) To bring together our friends and the local Christian community; 2) To further expose CIM’s ministry to grow people’s passion for Ghana and Togo; and 3) To raise funds to support the ministries at CIM. The day will start with golfers starting simultaneously at each hole, followed by a dinner at the golf course. If you’re not a golfer but would still love to support, our evening together will include testimonies from previous trips, a Gospel presentation and a presentation of CIM’s ministries.

We are reaching out to you, churches in Canada and around the world, for your prayer and support. There are 120 spots available for golfers, and we are also currently looking for financial sponsors and silent auction items for this tournament. To date, our general fund is currently in a $7645 deficit (as highlighted in our financial report). Therefore, all proceeds will go towards our $10,000 goal, which will assist and support CIM’s on-going ministries.

I would like to extend the invitation to everyone in Vancouver and wherever else you are situated, whether you have participated previously in CIM’s ministries or not. Let us come together once again to ignite hearts and drive for change. We may not enjoy golf, but I know we share a similar passion for God’s Kingdom. So let’s aim to impact lives in Ghana and Togo. This event is more than about making a putt; it’s about making a difference.

If you know someone who likes to golf or has a heart to impact God’s Kingdom in this way, please feel free to pass this information on. Also, whether you’re a golfer or not, we are in need of helpers for the day. If you’re not living in the Lower Mainland, we would love for you participate by donating and supporting the ministries at CIM. Though you may not be able to attend this fundraiser, know that your generous donations are an extension of yourself. This can be done online, through the CIM website (please indicate it’s in support of the tournament so we can keep track) or cash and cheques made to CIM Canada, in order to receive a tax receipt.

So, in summary, how can you get involved?

1. Golf in the tournament and attend the dinner
2. Sponsorship opportunities
3. Sign up to volunteer
