From this issue of News Update:

Well, it is hard to believe that it is December and the end of the year is upon us.  But as I write this newsletter from my home in Calgary, Canada, I know that it is definitely winter in this part of the world as temperatures have been in mid -20’s all week with wind chills of -30s.  It is cold here.  Luckily I am inside, where there is heat.

December is the month where we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  It is only because of Him that we have hope, peace, joy, and love.  It is only through Him that we can experience love and warmth in the coldest and darkest of times.  And it is only through Him that we have missions.  In fact, one can argue, that missions started over 2000 years ago that very first Christmas when God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into this world, as a human being to save us.  Jesus Christ was that first missionary.

At CIM Canada, we recognize this fact, as we continue this work which started so long ago.  Jesus, came into this world to demonstrate the love of God.  CIM travels to remote areas of the world to share the love of God.  Jesus came into this world as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  But He came in the most humble way.  Instead of dressing up as royalty, He stripped down, and entered this world as a baby, to live and grow as one of us.  CIM brings STM teams to villages in Africa where we interact and live amongst the villagers.  We do not go thinking that we are better but we are equals.  Jesus Christ taught about God and was the gospel story.  Ultimately He died on the cross so all who believe and accept Him as their personal Saviour will have eternal life in the presence of God.  CIM shares this gospel story and the sacrifice of Jesus so that many will live.  Because of this, countless number of villagers, have come to a saving knowledge of Him.

That very first Christmas, God gave us the best present in Jesus.  We continue to give this present to others.  As this year draws to a close, CIM Canada also wants to thank each one of you for partnering with us, whether it was in joining one of our STM teams, through prayer, or financial giving.  We are all part of one big team as we move forward for God.

Bruce Dipple, writes in his book, “Becoming Global: Integrating Global Mission and Your Local Church”, “… For too long we have had a three-tiered approach to mission involvement. Too often we have said or thought, ‘If you can’t go, you can give, and if you can’t give, you can pray.’  To use a modern image, it is saying that mission has first class seats for those who go, second class seats for those who give, and third class seats for those who pray.  But the Bible makes it clear that all these roles are equally part of being involved in God’s mission, when they are done in an attitude of willingness and obedience.”

Every single one of you is important, so we continue to encourage you to go to the mission field to give the best present there ever was, we encourage you to give of your finances which helps others to share about Jesus, and definitely, we covet your presents of prayer for the work that CIM does and also for the people that we share the gospel with.

I have been to Ghana close to 20 times now and each time, I am filled with such joy when I meet the villagers and work alongside the local pastors.  It is true, that financially and materially, we, in the western world, as a whole, have been blessed.  It is heartbreaking to see the poverty and the health issues that many of the villagers have to endure, but it is amazing to see the happiness and joy in their faces when we give them the present of Jesus Christ, and they embrace it.  I will never get tired of that feeling and that is only possible through your prayers and your giving.  It goes a long way and many lives are impacted by it.

This Christmas, as we gather for our turkey dinners, our staff celebrations, our church gatherings, and other festivities, let us remember those that may not know the Lord personally like we do.  Let us give the present of Jesus Christ, whether it is to our family members, our neighbors, or to the villagers halfway around the world.  Have a very Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year from CIM Canada.
